Recreation Program Coordinator

At GeorgiaGov, we are seeking a Recreation Program Coordinator to assist in implementing recreational programs for youth. As a key member of our team, you will provide input into developing a comprehensive recreation program, conduct recreational activities, and teach decision-making and social skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing recreational programs for youth.
  • Conduct recreational activities, including teaching decision-making and social skills.
  • Provide input into developing a comprehensive recreation program.
  • Oversee and supervise part-time recreational workers.
  • Estimate materials needed for inventory and specific areas, including cost.
  • Plan and coordinate a comprehensive evidence-based program for the facility population.
  • Maintain daily records of service delivery in a recreation and leisure log book.
  • Identify staff development and training needs and ensure that training is provided.
  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of the Recreation Worker.
  • Ensure that coverage is in place to deliver recreation and leisure to all youth daily.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process of recreation staff.
  • Communicate regularly with facility HR staff on any recreation staff vacancy.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree in area of assignment from an accredited college or university.
  • Vocational/Technical degree in area of assignment from an accredited college and one year of experience in the area of assignment.
  • One year of experience required at the lower-level Practical Instructor 1 (EDT010) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the related field.
  • Experience in conducting structured recreational activities with the goals of teaching decision-making and improving physical fitness.
  • Experience delivering and facilitating structured leisure with the goals of teaching social skills.
  • Experience working with youth in a secure facility.
  • Experience supervising lower-level staff.
  • Experience managing a recreation and leisure program for youth.
