Deputy Director of Labor Relations

The Deputy Director of Labor Relations will provide critical support to the Director and Office of Labor Relations (OLR) in achieving excellent working relationships between management and labor while meeting the goals and mission of Boston Public Schools.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Director in leading OLR and effectuating excellent labor-management relations with all BPS bargaining units.
- Represent BPS in collective bargaining and contract administration matters.
- Assist all levels of management on labor matters, including union negotiations, arbitrations, grievances, and corrective actions.
- Provide oversight of personnel matters, investigations, policy review, and management of special projects.
- Develop effective strategies for staff development in consultation with the Director and Chief Human Capital Officer.
- Supervise labor relations staff in ensuring effective and productive negotiations and labor-related litigation for BPS.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships within the OLR team.
- Develop and implement excellent labor and employment training programming for managerial personnel.
- Oversee labor litigation for BPS, including prohibited practice charges and other litigation proceedings.
- Provide legal consultation to school leaders and RC managers on performance evaluation processes and employee labor relations issues.
- Help establish uniform and legally defensible protocols for conducting investigations and disciplinary actions.
- Coordinate matters with City Hall Labor Relations and keep City's Corporation Counsel informed as required.
- Experience managing a Labor Relations Office in a complex unionized environment, preferably in the public sector.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in labor litigation, union negotiations, and employment matters within a fast-paced environment.
