Job Title: Substance Use Counselor

Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Inc. is seeking a qualified Substance Use Counselor to join our Recovery Services team. As a Substance Use Counselor, you will be responsible for delivering substance use treatment services to participants at CITC. Our recovery services utilize evidence-based approaches to aid in the process of recovery, promoting connectedness, resilience, and whole-person wellness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct individual sessions and facilitate substance-use related groups to help individuals identify substance use patterns and develop treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with treatment teams to ensure delivery of case management services, referrals, and advocacy for participants' needs.
  • Develop and maintain clinical documentation for participants, including assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Utilize ASAM and DSM-5 criteria to make substance use diagnoses and recommendations.
  • Administer approved screening tools and implement them into assessments to determine treatment recommendations.
Requirements:
  • Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification I (CDC I) through the Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health Certification at time of hire.
  • One (1) year of experience delivering substance use treatment in the field of case management and/or related role.
  • Working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or substance abuse/addiction counseling.
  • Relevant work experience in both residential and outpatient substance use treatment settings.
