Job Summary

The Odessa College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Livestock Ranch Manager to join its team. As the primary caretaker and laborer on the college's 120 acre livestock and farm operation at the Graham Center in Gardendale, TX, you will be responsible for ensuring the high standards of the ranch and the rodeo team.

About the Role

This is a part-time position that requires a strong background in livestock and farming practices, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and habitability of the ranch buildings, barns, fences, and equipment, as well as performing various tasks such as painting, janitorial work, and maintenance of pastures, paddocks, pens, and outdoor areas.

You will also be responsible for raking, cleaning, irrigation, irrigation equipment maintenance, and tree cutting, as well as maintaining Graham Center vehicles and equipment with assistance from the college motor pool. Additionally, you will need to prepare fields for spring and fall planting, plant pastures, and fertilize, cut and bale hay, transport hay from fields to barn, and observe livestock for illness or injury and report any abnormalities to Physical Plant and/or veterinarian.

Responsibilities

- Maintain and upkeep of ranch buildings, barns, fences, and equipment
- Perform various tasks such as painting, janitorial work, and maintenance of pastures, paddocks, pens, and outdoor areas
- Rake, clean, irrigate, and perform irrigation equipment maintenance
- Cut and bale hay, transport hay from fields to barn, and observe livestock for illness or injury and report any abnormalities to Physical Plant and/or veterinarian
- Assist in preparing fields for spring and fall planting, planting pastures, and fertilizing
- Maintain Graham Center vehicles and equipment with assistance from the college motor pool

Requirements

- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of livestock and farming practices, operation of power tools and machinery
- Self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
