Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at CHRISTUS Health. As a key member of our Operating Room team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of surgical care to our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, maintaining aseptic techniques and actively monitoring situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • Prepare patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards and transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite.
  • Position patients according to the type of surgery and identify and care for biological specimens.
  • Prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to type of case.
  • Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Perform all processes that relate to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance care in the OR prior to and during any surgical procedure.
  • Establish and maintain the sterile field, pass instruments, and sutures to the physician, and assist as directed by the physician.
  • Use the physician preference card as a beginning point when pulling cases and setting up the OR.
  • Ensure that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible.
  • Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient and cooperate in team planning and execution.
  • Maintain a safe environment by always implementing technical and aseptic practices.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
  • Demonstrate competency to monitor and control the surgical environment.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Surgical Technology program required.
  • 2 or more years of experience preferred.
  • BLS required.
  • Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required.
