Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation/Controls Engineer to join our team at KROHNE, Inc. This is a challenging opportunity for a talented individual to design, implement, and maintain automation systems that improve efficiency and product specification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot manufacturing automation systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Design and develop PLC/Loop Controller systems based on project requirements, meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs and Loop Controllers from various manufacturers, including Automation Direct and Allen-Bradley.
  • Develop and maintain HMI (Human Machine Interface) terminals for user interaction with controllers, ensuring user-friendly and intuitive interfaces.
  • Program equipment controllers and layout additional controls required by machines, ensuring seamless integration and operation.
  • Design and layout of electrical control panels, enclosures, and controls, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain databases to store and manage automation system data, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Document control system designs and track modifications for future reference, maintaining a comprehensive knowledge base.
  • Participate in performance testing, commissioning, and startup of projects, ensuring successful deployment and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, local and corporate IT to ensure designs comply with standards and are delivered correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Respond to and resolve automation equipment end-user problems, providing timely and effective support.
  • Provide technical, diagnostic, investigative, and repair support to Manufacturing and Service as needed, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Assist with facility electrical trouble shooting, interacting with electricians and outside vendors to resolve issues efficiently.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or Controls Engineering from a four-year college or university.
  • Five plus years of related experience and/or training after completion of schooling, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work experience with PLCs, proficiency in programming PLCs using ladder logic (LL), function block diagrams (FBD), and other applicable programming languages.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including HART, Modbus, BACnet, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Knowledge of HMI design and programming, strong knowledge of Networking, Microsoft Excel and Access, and programming languages.
Language Skills

You will need to be able to:

  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills

You will need to be able to:

  • Apply advanced mathematical concepts, such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability

You will need to be able to:

  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include:

  • Frequent sitting, occasional standing, walking, and talking or hearing.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment

The work environment for this role includes:

  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • A moderate noise level in the work environment.
