Job Summary

Rice University seeks a highly skilled Department Administrator to implement and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the Department of Linguistics. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating daily operations, program administration, research administration, financial management, human resources, compliance, and communications/outreach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies and plans related to outreach, events, communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department, including research administration, budget/finance, program administration, human resources, communications/outreach, events, and compliance.
  • Administer research centers and consortiums, including budgeting, tracking expenses, and event management.
  • Manage the human resource function for the department, including staff coordination, visa processing for international faculty, staff, and students, faculty searches, and promotion and tenure process.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years in a similar administrative role.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, strong verbal and written communications skills, ability to work well under pressure, and manage projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, and strong data analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Rice University work experience or experience in any higher education environment.
  • Experience working with Rice IO or Oracle Cloud ERP and HCM Systems.
