Occupational Therapist Mental Health Specialist

Key Position Details:
This position is on the inpatient mental health unit(s) at Abbott Northwestern Hospital on the Child/Adolescent inpatient mental health unit. The Clinical Therapy team includes staff from multiple disciplines including Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Recreation Therapy. They provide group programming, individual assessments and interventions for patients on the inpatient mental health units. The team works closely with the multidisciplinary inpatient care team including the psychiatrist/nurse practitioner, nurse, psychologist, internal medicine provider, social work, mental health coordinator, pharmacy and additional team members as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
Provides care that is appropriate, efficient, and effective in meeting the customer's requirements for occupational therapy in a hospital, outpatient clinic, home health, mental health, skilled nursing facility or community based settings. The occupational therapist will provide therapy to patients, generate a therapy diagnosis by gathering patient data and assessing the patient, design, implement and modify therapeutic interventions, educate patient and family in establishing goals of treatment, set improvement levels and determine the amount of time needed to reach that level, use re-examination to determine whether predicted outcomes are reasonable modifies as necessary, accommodate selection of tests and measures and therapeutic interventions to the age of the patient/client, report and record service charges, provide safe patient equipment, ensure personal safety and safe work environment, select and delegate appropriate tasks of the plan of care, supervise therapeutic programs and activities carried out by aides, coordinate care with inter-disciplinary referrals or referrals to other practitioners, participate in performance improvement and process improvement activities for the department, support and promote new services as requested, provide ongoing input to enhance the services provided by the department, develop and promote new and current programs as requested, and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program, 0 to 2 years occupational therapist experience, Licensed Occupational Therapist - MN Department of Health required if service area is in Minnesota upon hire, BLS Tier - Basic Life Support - Multisource required within 60 Days, and a valid Driver's License required upon hire - MN and WI residents must obtain a valid driver's license in their state of residence within 60 days of employment if providing services for Home Care and Hospice.
