As a Lead Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for performing routine patient care, technical, and supportive functions in a medical clinic setting. You will work under the direction of the clinical supervisor and function within the scope of practice as described by the State of California Board.
You will also have the opportunity to act as a preceptor/mentor to other MAs, sharing your knowledge and expertise to help them grow and develop in their roles. This position requires strong leadership and clinical skills, as well as the ability to model, train, and promote high-functioning clinical support staff from all experience levels.
Job Responsibilities:- Leadership:
- Assist the clinical staff in achieving clinical excellence and promoting a positive work environment.
- Act as a subject matter expert in MA roles, duties, scope of practice, and workflows.
- Mentor/train the MA team to continually improve performance and skill level.
- Model a culture of safety and "speaking up". Ensure that the MAs are following policies.
- Assist in trainings and completion of staff competencies.
- Perform administrative tasks assigned by the clinic manager.
- Coordinate inventory, ordering, and stocking of medical supplies.
- Reasonable and predictable in-person attendance.
- Quality:
- Review charts, lab results, and encounters for completeness and assess follow-up as needed to close care gaps.
- Track logs (PAP, mammogram, carts, etc.).
- Work collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes. Assist in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model.
- Patient Experience:
- Demonstrate and model excellent customer service skills and assist the managers and other clinical staff in providing timely resolution to patient concerns as needed.
- Ensure that care provided to patients is patient-centered and mission-focused. This position will continuously look to seek improvements and help implement best practices.
- Assist in the development of processes to reduce wait times, address barriers, and other concerns to increase efficiency.
- Able to perform other duties as assigned and directed.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
- Current State of California Medical Assistant Certification.
- Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient setting; preferably in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
- Possess and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Card.
- Possess and maintain a California Driver's license.
- Venipuncture experience preferred at time of hire; competency must be obtained within one year of hire date.
- Ability to effectively communicate, advise, teach, and guide preceptees.
- Work collaboratively with a team, supporting each team member, and working towards one common goal.
- Must adhere to CSV's employee health/immunization requirements or provide a valid approved exemption request.
