Gastroenterology Nurse Scheduler

Job Summary:
The RN Procedure Scheduler is a vital member of our GI clinic team, responsible for enhancing the clerical and clinical functions of the department. This individual will process procedure orders placed daily by physicians, providing education, scheduling procedures, communicating with patients, and ensuring proper insurance authorization is in place.
This role requires excellent organizational skills, a clerical background, and the ability to multitask. The successful candidate will be capable of communicating with various types of people, familiar with office machines and equipment, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process procedure orders and schedule endoscopic procedures at University Hospital, Community Upstate Hospital, and University Gastroenterology at the Philip G. Holtzapple Endoscopy Center
- Communicate with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth procedure scheduling
- Verify insurance authorization and ensure proper documentation
- Provide education to patients and families on procedure preparation and post-procedure care
- Assist with clinic nurse responsibilities, including checking in patients, educating patients, and answering phones
Requirements:
- NYS licensed/registered RN
- Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
- Previous experience in an outpatient practice with Gastroenterology patients preferred
Work Environment:
This role is a Monday through Friday daytime position, requiring excellent communication and organizational skills. The successful candidate will be a team player, able to work in a fast-paced environment and provide exceptional patient care.
