Optum Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist

As a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation, directly impacting patient care and revenue integrity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert-level review of inpatient clinical records, identifying gaps in documentation and ensuring accurate code assignment.
  • Collaborate with providers to clarify information and communicate documentation requirements for accurate diagnoses.
  • Lead the development and execution of physician education strategies to improve clinical documentation.
  • Utilize Optum CDI 3D Technology to document clarification activity and ensure effective utilization of approved clarification forms.
  • Engage with Care Coordination and Quality Management teams to evaluate and spearhead clinical documentation improvement opportunities.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years acute care hospital clinical RN experience or Medical Graduate with CDI experience and CDI certification (CCDS, CDIP).
  • 1+ years experience as a clinical documentation integrity specialist.
  • Proficiency using a PC in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Electronic Medical Records.
  • Experience communicating and working closely with physicians.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BSN degree if a RN.
  • CAC experience (Computer Assistant Coding).
  • CCDS, CDIP, or CCS certification.
