About this role

We are seeking a seasoned tax professional to join our Corporate Transformation Tax team as a Director. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in State and Local Tax (SALT) consulting, with expertise in structuring, audit defense, and bankruptcy-related matters.

Key responsibilities
  • Utilize technical skills to assist clients with SALT consulting engagements, including structuring, audit defense, and bankruptcy-related matters.
  • Research technical issues, draft memoranda, and prepare Excel models.
  • Manage client engagements, including budgets, staffing, project workflow, and billing.
  • Supervise Associates and Senior Associates and provide on-the-job training.
  • Build and maintain lasting client and team relationships.
  • Lead preparation, detailed discussion, and follow through in client and internal stakeholder meetings.
  • Manage risk, resources, staffing, and financial performance for multiple engagements simultaneously, including billing, collections, and project budgets.
  • Lead client calls to understand critical areas of importance and apply tax technical knowledge to specific client situations.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and clearly communicate work plan, project objectives, and timelines.
  • Build client relationships and demonstrate a working knowledge of client businesses.
  • Supervise, develop, mentor, and motivate Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers by actively participating in their advancement through on-the-job training, providing performance feedback, counseling, and fostering a team-based atmosphere.
  • Manage workload and deadlines for Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers with a focus on quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the project team.
  • Demonstrate commitment and desired behaviors while working with others who have diverse experiences, skills, and perspectives.
  • Conduct day-to-day management of accounts to ensure delivery of timely and accurate work product.
  • Regularly support business development efforts, identifying opportunities for add-on work, thought leadership, new client pitches, and optimizing the compliance process.

Qualifications
  • Licensed CPA or Licensed Attorney
  • 6+ years of tax consulting experience
  • 5+ years of State and Local Tax experience required, specifically Income/Franchise
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office products skills, with emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated success as a trusted tax and business advisor, building relationships, identifying and addressing client needs, and delivering high-quality deliverables
  • Passion for training and mentoring staff
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to establish credibility and influence clients
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to simultaneously work on several projects and effectively manage deadlines
  • High motivation to learn and grow and actively identify trends and new ideas for enhancing solutions and approaches
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills
