Job Summary:

As a School Resource Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students and staff at the Education Transition Center. Under the supervision of senior law enforcement officials, you will perform a range of duties to ensure the well-being and safety of all individuals on campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular searches of the building and its perimeter to identify and mitigate potential security threats.
  • Coordinate the delivery of students throughout the school day, ensuring their safe transportation and supervision.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to address student academic performance and behavioral issues.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and training as required, ensuring the center is prepared for any situation.
  • Inspect areas frequented by youth for contraband and/or safety breaches, taking prompt action to address any issues.
  • De-escalate altercations or security threats, prioritizing the safety of all individuals involved.
  • Identify, monitor, and address any instances of gang-related behavior/activity, working closely with colleagues and community partners.
  • Facilitate classroom discussions with students on relevant topics, including alcohol/drug awareness and gang prevention.
  • Conduct classes on the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP) as required by law, for students under the age of 18 seeking their Class D driver's license.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED and successful completion of Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
  • Current and valid certification as a Peace Officer by Georgia Peace Officers Standard and Training (POST).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology, or a related field.
  • One or more years of experience in police or investigative work, in a federal, state, or local law enforcement agency.
  • Two or more years of experience working in a juvenile justice or human service delivery setting.
