Job Summary

The University of Southern California (USC) is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its Facilities Planning & Management (FPM) team. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for assessing existing electrical systems, providing scope for replacement and upgrade, and supporting design and implementation of engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering analysis and design for assigned projects.
  • Develop documentation in the form of drawings and specifications for bid and construction.
  • Ensure project drawings and specifications comply with university standards and specifications and federal, state and local requirements.
  • Provide construction phase support, including review of submittals, documents interpretation, and field observation.
  • Develop, monitor, and implement policies, processes, standards, and guidelines for various facility systems, such as electrical, mechanical, or plumbing systems.
  • Recommend best industry practices to improve unit processes for meeting user needs.
  • Serve as program manager for Facilities Management Services (FMS) related programs and individual projects.
  • Provide leadership and direction on all project operations and activities, including design, plan, schedule, and scope of services.
  • Identify strategies to ensure delivery of quality services with available resources.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to Facilities Management Services (FMS) related to utility infrastructure, energy management, and environmental compliance.
  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulations to ensure compliance with existing regulations.
  • Oversee, initiate, and review feasibility studies to determine whether design concepts are compatible within existing infrastructures.
  • Develop and recommend changes to design concepts, as necessary.
  • Inspect current building systems, such as AC units, automatic controls, and lights, and determine whether systems need to be repaired, replaced, or retrofitted.
  • Recommend equipment or systems to install.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical design and operation.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license a plus.
  • Experience in facilities management and/or installation/construction experience specifically related to mechanical trade a plus.
  • Valid State Driver's License.
