Disassembly and Repair Specialist

Job Summary:
The Disassembly and Repair Specialist is responsible for the methodical teardown and documentation of rotating equipment received at the repair shop for repair. This critical role will work on a diverse range of rotating equipment, including multistage centrifugal pumps, between bearing and overhung pumps, vertical pumps, small compressors, and other high-energy pumps. The specialist will receive a technical package with drawings and equipment specifications to record disassembly and technical findings. Site engineers will use this data to determine the repair scope for the equipment. The specialist must be detail-oriented and experienced in various failure modes, such as galling, bearing failure, excessive heat signs, and locate failed components to assist the engineering department in determining an appropriate repair path for the equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Work safely while helping colleagues work safely and utilizing Stop Work Authority when appropriate.
- Follow pre-job briefs and checklists prior to machining a part.
- Follow all routers and assembly procedures needed to accurately disassemble, clean, and inspect the received equipment.
- Accurately set up and read precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, and other gauges.
- Clean each part to be used and document the condition of components.
- Inspect components/assemblies accurately and precisely, and clearly record the results of these inspections, including fits, clearances, TIR, and other non-destructive testing PMI and liquid penetrant inspections.
- Take pictures to document condition and process.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with production planners and customers to discuss the component and pump conditions.
- Coordinate and interface with operations engineers as necessary.
- Accurately use precision measuring and inspection tools to measure dimensions of pump components and assemblies.
- Able to complete all related documentation associated with the disassembly process.
- Utilize torches and other heat sources properly and safely in the assembly process.
- Communicate clearly to peers and supervisors any related job issues.
- Able to work efficiently within fixed time windows for each manufacturing process.
- Willingness to work with the local team on developing new tools and hardware as part of ongoing Continuous Improvement projects within the facility.
- Exhibit behavior that encourages teamwork, decision-making, problem-solving, and continuous improvements.
- Utilize cranes, lifting devices, and fork trucks.
- Comply with all Flowserve policies and procedures, specifically around time and attendance, safety, and productivity.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- General mechanic skills, including turning a wrench and using ratchets.
- Must own or be willing to quickly procure a set of personal SAE hand tools and measurement instruments, including micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, etc., and a roll-around toolbox.
- Able to read and interpret prints, shop drawings, assembly checklists, and other written work instructions.
- Basic computer aptitude to learn data entry systems, as well as Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English and able to effectively understand work instructions, safety procedures, and company policies.
- Must be able to effectively communicate job status and support handovers from shift to shift.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds with a full range of hand and upper-body motion to work with tools and parts.
- With training, be comfortable with crane operation, rigging, lifting, and moving items up to 10 tons in weight.
- Experience working in a cross-functional, diverse, and responsive team.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and processes.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Must show a customer-service mindset for on-time delivery and quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and prioritize work assignments with support from Team Lead and Supervisor.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime hours, including weekends and holidays, when dictated by customer emergencies and business needs.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
- Strong drive to make things happen and a strong 'can-do' attitude.
- Demonstrate a desire for personal growth and career development.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- 1+ years of general mechanical experience.
- Certification of trade school training may be accepted in lieu of experience.
- Knowledge of service environment activities, including DCI, machining, assembly, test, and field service for rotating equipment.
- Previous manufacturing experience.
- Prior experience working in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment around repair services.
