Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems. As a Laboratory Scientist, you will play a critical role in providing accurate and timely testing and results to requesting physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform accurate and timely testing and results to requesting physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers at all times.
  • Consistently demonstrate a positive and professional interpersonal style with a strong commitment to the team effort.
  • Notify ordering physicians of panic values and provide customer service-oriented communications.
  • Participate in teaching new employees, students, residents, etc. in areas where competency is demonstrated.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program or a Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science with 5 or more years of on-the-job training in a hospital healthcare environment in a specific lab discipline.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) National Certifying Agency.
  • Ability to work rotating weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (MSCLS) from an accredited program.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Lab Scientist, or Medical Lab Scientist.
Work Environment

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with exposure to biohazards and potentially infectious body fluids. The successful candidate will be required to lift less than 20 lbs and stand for prolonged periods.
