Afterschool Counselor

Job Summary

The Sulphur Springs YMCA is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Afterschool Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our after-school program, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and supportive environment for children to grow and develop.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and support to children in our after-school program, promoting their social, emotional, and academic development.
• Develop and implement engaging activities and programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our participants.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and effective program that meets the needs of our children and families.
• Maintain accurate records and reports, ensuring compliance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Requirements

• 18 years or older, preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with children, preferably in a school or community setting.
• Ability to work cooperatively with children, parents, and peers, demonstrating character, integrity, adaptability, and patience in all interactions.

Certifications and Trainings

• Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
• Must obtain within 10 days of employment 8 Early Learning Modules or equivalent.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, including but not limited to:
• Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
• Ability to instruct and observe participants during program activities.
• Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including but not limited to, leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Ability to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
• Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness, heat, and cold.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

This position requires reliable transportation and the willingness to travel, if needed. This position may require availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
