Specimen Collector

Key Responsibilities:

As a Specimen Processor at TridentCare, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of biological specimens for laboratory testing. This includes marking the location of testing on requisitions, collecting the correct specimens for each test ordered, and verifying the patient's information and specimen barcodes.

Additional Responsibilities:

Inform facilities of redraws needed due to issues such as QNS PT & PTT, missing or incorrectly spelled names, and mislabeled accession numbers. Take redraw orders from CLS if specimens are unsuitable for testing. Scan patient requisitions into the Filebound program. Centrifuge specimens for correct times to ensure adequate serum or plasma. Route in-house specimens to correct lab benches and reference lab specimens to the reference lab desk. Prepare reference lab coolers correctly and notify Dispatch of transfers. Regularly review in-house testing areas for completed specimens to store for future add-on tests or repeats.

Requirements:

A High School Diploma or equivalent and minimum of 2 months of training in specimen collection are required. Knowledge of specimen collection appropriate to the test ordered, awareness of factors that influence test results, and knowledge of medical terminology are also necessary. Proper Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times to protect against infectious material.
