About the Role

The University of Miami is seeking a highly skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing complex procedures in Mammography, utilizing radiographic equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images with minimal radiation exposure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and examine orders for Mammography scans to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure orders are appropriate for the type of exam recommended by the physician, notifying supervisors of any discrepancies.
  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and other stakeholders.
  • Verify patient identification and obtain necessary consents and education.
  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with Mammography scanners and related equipment, adhering to radiation safety procedures.
  • Integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records to adapt exams as necessary.
  • Consistently demonstrate complete competence in performing Mammography scans as ordered.
  • Assist positioning patients in required anatomical positions for display of body for Mammography scans.
  • Maintain proper aseptic technique and universal precaution guidelines.
  • Assist radiologists with imaging procedures, starting IVs, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
  • Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
  • Evaluate Mammography scans for technical quality and collate processed images in sequence of exposure.
  • Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties and providing explanations of treatment.
  • Apply physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/developmental requirements.
  • Perform basic nursing functions in patient care, including assisting with bedpans and emesis basins.
  • Assume care for physical and psychological needs of patients during scanning procedures.
  • Keep work areas clean and sanitary, stocking exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
  • Report unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate radiologists/supervisory personnel.
  • Schedule patients for procedures and assist with clerical functions.
  • Provide assistance with orientation and training of new Mammography technologists.
  • Abide by hospital/department HR policies and adhere to regulatory body guidelines.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology/Diagnostic Imaging Program.
  • State of Florida License as a General Radiographer.
  • CPR and BLS certification required.
  • ARRT registered and ARRT Certified in primary modality or must obtain certification within one (1) year of hire date.
  • One (1) year of relevant experience preferred, will consider new graduates from accredited schools.
