Job Summary

This role involves leading the preparation of complete estimates and proposals, utilizing documents ranging from concept sketches to complete construction drawings and specifications. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Estimator and be responsible for the leadership and preparation of complete estimates and proposals.

Duties and Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Preparing work to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements, setting priorities.
  2. Preparing construction estimate by studying construction plans and specifications, identifying and projecting costs for each item of work.
  3. Reviewing and understanding bid documents prior to bid day to assist estimating support staff in their preparation and completion.
  4. Identifying, soliciting, and obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials, identifying qualified subcontractors.
  5. Visiting proposed project sites prior to completing estimates when possible.
  6. Maintaining cost keys and price masters by updating information.
  7. Preparing special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  8. Assisting PM/PE and Overall Project team with project buyout on successful bids. Coordinating with design teams to help develop and interpret design concepts during design build pursuits and communicating that information to the rest of the team.
  9. Implementing advanced knowledge of estimating software including estimate setup, cost reviews, and bid pricing.
  10. Assisting in the development of technical proposals for design build and other alternate procurement projects.
  11. Maintaining quality service by following organization standards.
  12. Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing and specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to discipline.

Education and Experience

Candidates should have:

  • A Construction Management, Business Management, or Civil Engineering Degree.
  • Over 5 years of experience in estimating projects exceeding $5 million.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid Software.

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional office environment. It requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. The noise level is typically moderate. At times, this position will travel to view projects prior to estimating using a company car.
