Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Radiation Therapist to join our team at Danbury Hospital. As a Radiation Therapist, you will be responsible for administering radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. You will participate in planning patients' treatment and monitor patient response to treatment. This is a per diem position, working shifts from 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, accurately positioning patients for treatment using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards. • Design and facilitate daily treatment schedules, ordering, reviewing, and exporting daily treatment charges. • Observe clinical progress of patients receiving radiation and recognize signs of treatment complications to know when to withhold treatment until physician consultation. • Follow department quality control measures for treatment delivery, maintaining a neat and accurate record of treatment administered. • Perform simulation procedures and construct immobilization devices, documenting all simulation information and setup photos. • Perform daily quality control warm-up procedures on linear accelerators and simulator prior to patient procedures. • Operate and adjust equipment to regulate dosage, detect unsatisfactory setups and/or errors, and report them promptly. • Learn and apply new advances in treatment technology, assisting other staff members and following principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others. • Assist in follow-up clinic, patient exams, and receptionist duties, including phone, filing, greeting patients, scheduling follow-up and consults, and simulations. • Maintain patient safety at all times, transferring patients safely to the treatment couch and giving special care to catheters, IV drips, O2 masks, tubes, oxygen tanks, and life support systems. • Practice continuing education and fulfill all state and national compliance responsibilities. • Communicate clearly and concisely with all members of the healthcare team, patients, and facilities, practicing effective verbal and written communication skills. • Train and supervise student or subordinate radiotherapy technologists. • Educate, prepare, and reassure patients and their families by answering questions, providing physical and emotional assistance, and reinforcing physician's advice regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care. • Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Associate's Degree in Radiation Therapy or related field. • Graduate of an accredited ARRT Radiation Therapy program. • Radiographer CT State Licensure required. • Solid computer skills, efficiency, and ability to concentrate on tasks.

Credentials:
ARRT, RAD

Experience:
Three years of experience preferred.

Salary:
$58.05 Hourly (Union Position)
