Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist

The Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a skilled Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist to join our team in the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. This role is responsible for providing expert services to individuals with disabilities, including orientation and mobility training, assistive technology, and job placement and development.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a related field and at least two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities. Certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor or Vocational Evaluation Specialist is also highly desirable.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Performing orientation and mobility evaluations and training for referred Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living/Older Blind consumers
  • Receiving referral information and interpreting eye reports and other medical reports
  • Writing monthly training reports for referring Office of Vocational Rehabilitation counselors
  • Coordinating schedules with consumers and traveling to conduct O&M evaluations and training
  • Providing information to agency staff regarding program developments and best practices
  • Developing informational materials on safety, guide dogs, and other O&M topics
  • Providing outreach and training to community partners, professional organizations, and workforce partners to promote the O&M program
  • Conducting worksite assessments for employers and staff
  • Providing consultation to the agency on best practices of O&M and providing updated active evaluation and training cases and completed cases for reporting needs of the Division of Blind Services
