Purchasing Coordinator Job Description

The Purchasing Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the material movement from vendors to the manufacturing facility in conjunction with shipping/receiving. This role involves determining inventory levels and requirements by analyzing material requirements through the MRP system and production schedule. The Purchasing Coordinator establishes and/or manages vendor relations, interacts with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors, and updates the ERP system with data relating to purchasing such as latest vendor information, pricing, lead times, etc. Additionally, this role involves negotiating pricing and shipping terms with suppliers and interacting with the new product development team for prototype and pilot builds of new products. The Purchasing Coordinator attends as required to support projects, production, planning, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee material movement from vendors to the manufacturing facility
  • Determine inventory levels and requirements
  • Establish and/or manage vendor relations
  • Interact with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors
  • Update the ERP system with purchasing data
  • Negotiate pricing and shipping terms with suppliers
  • Interact with the new product development team
  • Attend to support projects, production, planning, and vendors

Requirements:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Microsoft Office, Crystal Reports, and ERP experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • 3-5 years of purchasing, inventory, and cost control experience in a manufacturing setting required
  • Chemical Procurement Experience preferred
