Job Summary

This role will be responsible for providing sterile or high-level disinfected equipment and supplies, ready for use, accurately and timely for inpatient and outpatient surgical patient care. The Certified Central Sterile Tech Lead will oversee the decontamination area, instrument assembly area, sterilization, and sterile storage areas, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

- Adheres to CS decontamination area policies and procedures, properly wearing personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Knowledge of ultrasonic and instrument washer testing and operation.
- Adheres to CS eye wash station policy & procedures, weekly testing.

- Assembles instruments and equipment according to Central Sterilization policies and procedures.
- Utilizes available resources (Censitrac and OneSource) for the correct sterilization methods.
- Utilizes proper instrument wrapping techniques and proper peel package of surgical instruments.

- Adheres to CS policies related to all sterilization methods, Steam - prevac /gravity, Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide.
- Properly loads sterilization racks and follows CS policies and procedures for sterilization.
- Monitors chemical and physical sterilization cycle parameters, documents results correctly.

- Adheres to storage requirements for sterilized reusable medical equipment.
- Facilitates a cohesive sterile processing team, assists with the orientation and training of new personnel, and participates in the development of educational programs for coworkers.
- Participates in quality improvement activities, develops process improvement plans, and implementation.

Requirements

- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Previous CSR experience required.
- Certified CSR technicians must maintain 10 hours of continuing education (CE) annually.
- Certification must be attained from either the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
- Certification must be maintained according to requirements of either the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

Patient Population

The patient population ranges from less than one year of age to ninety-nine plus years of age. Environmental conditions include possible exposure to anesthetics, radiation, and infectious disease entities. Physical efforts require prolonged standing and working for up to twelve hours a day, constant pushing/pulling objects up to 175 lbs, lifting, positioning, and transporting with assistance up to 250 lbs, and ability to work overtime or late shifts as required by the workload schedule.

Estimated Salary Range

$45,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
