Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Correctional Officer II to join our team at the State of Vermont. As a Correctional Officer II, you will be responsible for providing supervisory work involving the custody, treatment, and training of incarcerated individuals within a correctional facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise correctional staff and incarcerated individuals in a correctional setting
  • Provide technical assistance and supervision to lower-ranking officers
  • Conduct searches and inventories of property, sharps, and other items as needed
  • Evaluate staff and performance in relation to assigned duties and roles
  • Investigate grievances and participate in disciplinary hearings
  • Participate in the revision and implementation of facility procedures and programs
Work Environment

This position is performed largely within a correctional facility and in the immediate area of inmates. High-stress situations are predictable, and the potential of physical assault or injury is present. Transportation and supervision of inmates outside of the correctional facility may be required.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 18 months of work experience in a correctional system
  • Associate's degree or higher and 1 year of work experience in a correctional system
  • 1 year of military experience and 1 year of work experience in a correctional system
