Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. The successful candidate will provide support to certified staff in delivering the instructional program, working with individuals and small groups to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist certified staff in providing instructional support to students.
  • Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
  • Collect, prepare, and arrange resource materials for use by certified personnel.
  • Operate support equipment and monitor testing or make-up work by students.
  • Maintain classroom records, prepare reports as requested by the classroom teacher or principal, score tests, process books, manage supplies, and classroom equipment as needed.
  • Monitor student activities in classrooms, school grounds, hallways, lunchrooms, field trips, bus loading areas, etc.
  • Provide support for non-instructional classroom duties such as monitoring snacks, restrooms, clothing areas, etc.
  • Participate in teacher-parent conferences and meetings as requested by the classroom teacher.
  • Reinforce the implementation of IEP goals using similar emphasis and techniques as the classroom teacher.
  • Train students in self-help skills including eating, toileting, hygiene, behavior management, and academic skills.
  • Assist with custodial skills of students including lifting, positioning, and adaptive equipment maintenance using established procedures.
  • Escort students to other locations on campus and off campus with the approval of the classroom teacher.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Meet the NCLB highly qualified requirements.
  • 48 college credit hours or pass the Paraprofessional Test.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial, and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Experience with educational equipment preferred.
