Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant

As a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting surgeons during thoracic or cardiovascular operations. Your duties will include performing preoperative and postoperative tasks to facilitate patient care, demonstrating advanced medical knowledge, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Responsibilities- Assist in various cardiac procedures, including emergency situations, and demonstrate versatility and competency.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures.
- Under physician supervision, assist in maintaining hemostasis, retracting tissues, and using electrocautery and other surgical instruments.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, anesthesia levels, and physiological responses throughout the procedure.
- Assist in the closure of all surgical sites and application of dressings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique and CPR or open cardiac massage procedures.
- Obtain necessary CEUs to maintain certification.
- Assist in transfer and positioning of patients as directed by the surgeon or circulating nurse.
- Handle various pharmaceutical agents under the direction of the registered nurse.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
- Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Experience:
- Previous professional experience in cardiothoracic surgery is preferred.
Licensure:
- Must hold or obtain a valid Physician Assistant license in Kentucky.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (required).
