The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is a leading transportation system in the United States, serving a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail. As a Senior Project Engineer in the Power Department, you will play a critical role in designing, constructing, and maintaining SEPTA's electrical infrastructure.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Project Engineer to oversee AC and DC traction power substation projects. As a technical expert, you will develop design drawings and specifications, including electrical control, protection, and coordination schemes, switchgear lineups, relay settings, conceptual designs, and facility layouts. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Consulting with managerial level on project definition
  • Applying advanced engineering and quality assurance principles
  • Preparing budgets for proposed projects and work to be contracted to a third party
  • Providing highly specialized technical expertise in support of project activities
  • Complying with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for undertaking engineering/quality assurance assignments of significant complexity in size and scope. You will provide technical support and direction for engineering/quality assurance activities, including design review and implementation, establishing inspection plans, program/project development, and consulting. Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Generating written memoranda, technical reports, audits, and interfaces with government agencies
  • Performing field equipment inspections and participating in problem resolution with maintenance staff
  • Generating and tracking service requests
  • Utilizing and maintaining the Departmental Engineering Website

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Electrical or Power) and seven (7) years of proven relevant engineering experience in substation design
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in the latest Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of all state, local, and applicable equipment codes for the assigned area
  • A valid driver's license
  • Proficiency in CAD
