Job Overview

We are looking for a diligent and detail-oriented NCDOT CEI Technician to oversee construction activities. In this role, you will be assigned to various active construction sites, ensuring that project activities adhere to the standards and specifications set by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). This position offers opportunities for skill enhancement through practical training and certification classes.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Construction Oversight:
    1. Conduct thorough inspections of construction activities, including roadways, bridges, utilities, and erosion control, to ensure compliance with construction drawings and NCDOT standards.
    2. Identify and document any discrepancies or non-compliance issues.
  2. Documentation and Reporting:
    1. Utilize a company-provided device to maintain comprehensive daily records of construction activities.
    2. Prepare clear and concise inspection reports and other relevant documentation, including test reports and material received reports.
    3. Keep detailed records of onsite activities to support the development of as-built plans.
  3. Quality Assurance:
    1. Conduct materials testing on soil, asphalt, and concrete.
    2. Collaborate with NCDOT staff, contractors, and other stakeholders to promptly address and resolve issues.
  4. Safety Compliance:
    1. Monitor and enforce safety protocols on construction sites.
    2. Report safety hazards and assist in resolving safety concerns.
  5. Effective Communication:
    1. Communicate clearly with project stakeholders, including NCDOT representatives and contractors.
    2. Provide regular updates on project progress and address any concerns as they arise.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years of construction-related experience OR an associate's degree in engineering technology, geomatics, or a related field.
  • A strong sense of responsibility, a positive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Capability to perform field measurements and execute mathematical calculations for areas and volumes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Availability to work weekends and nights as needed.
  • Valid driver's license with a favorable driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Prior experience with NCDOT projects.
  • Familiarity with NCDOT Standards and Specifications.
  • Relevant certifications, including:
    • NCDOT Concrete Field Technician
    • ACI Concrete Field Level I
    • NCDOT Erosion and Sediment Control Level II
    • NCDOT Introduction to Asphalt
    • NCDOT QMS Roadway
    • NCDOT ABC and Borrow Pit Sampling
    • NCDOT Conventional Density
    • OSHA 10-Hour Construction
