Job Title: RN Nurse

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated RN Nurse to join our team at Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students, promoting health education and preventive health practices, and working closely with teachers, parents, and medical professionals to ensure the well-being of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
  • Maintain competencies to care for any students on campus.
  • Serve as health advocate for students.
  • Notify parents of accidents or illnesses and secure medical care for students in emergency cases.
  • Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school.
  • Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of Health, Texas Educational Agency, and district policy.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of campus health program and make changes based on findings.
  • Participate in development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
  • Provide training to unlicensed diabetic care assistants in accordance with state law and provide annual follow-up training and skills check.
  • Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed.
  • Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary with permission of principal.
  • Communicate regularly with principal and health services coordinator regarding health services issues.
  • Review and evaluate immunization records.
  • Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration according to district policy.
  • Supervise and train nurse aides in clinic procedures and responsibilities according to district policy.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
  • Report potential health and safety hazards to principal.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain certification in CPR, AED, vision, hearing, acanthosis nigricans, scoliosis screening, and as a health screener.
  • Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Certified by the Department of Texas State Health to conduct vision, hearing, acanthosis nigricans, and scoliosis screenings.
  • CPR/AED Certification.
  • Two years nursing experience, preferably in community health.

Equipment Used:

Computer, copier, telephone, facsimile machine, health-related equipment, thermometer, sphygmomanometer, otoscope, peak flow meter, pulse oximeter, nebulizer, oxygen, suction machine, gastric feeding tube, glucometer, ambu bag, and vision and hearing equipment.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Must be able to stoop and lift approximately 25 lbs.
