Job Overview

SMS group Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive technical and commercial solutions for modernizations and new installations of digital solutions for Rolling Mill, Metallurgy, and Process Line equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and request setup of store room inventory items for commonly used parts.
  • Monitor, organize, and communicate the need for customer-supplied inventory.
  • Responsible for job-related material and resource planning.
  • Manage projects and work directly with contractors and vendors.
  • Identify, develop, and implement product improvements through the use of SMS Millcraft Technical Services and customer approval.
  • Coordinate strip and advise within a two-week window.
  • Prepare and submit strip reports to customers.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvement ideas for continual improvement by utilizing the latest industry standards and techniques.
  • Schedule repairs based on scope of work, lead time, and priority. Also, schedule quotations and work orders based on due dates and lead times.
  • Monitor job progress to ensure run times are being met.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs with the Production Manager.
  • Determine and schedule resources needed (i.e., equipment, manpower, tools, work hours, etc.).
  • Track chocks and related parts with a tracking program.
  • Develop chock menu pricing for all customers.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and lead 5S events.
  • Ensure customer-requested ship dates are consistently met by scheduling work through all departments.
Requirements
  • Manufacturing or Process Engineering degree preferred; Mechanical engineering also considered.
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of corporate policies and compliance.
  • Demonstrated prior success in achieving results using team-driven philosophies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in supporting corporate interests from remote site locations and ability to communicate and exercise very positive people skills.
