OverviewNew England Donor Services (NEDS) is a leader in the development and implementation of strategies to increase life-saving and life-enhancing gifts of organ and tissue donation. As an Organ Recovery Surgeon at NEDS, you will be part of a team that supports our mission to Save and Heal Lives through the gift of Organ and Tissue Donation.

Estimated Salary: $250,000 - $300,000 per year

Job DescriptionThe NEDS Recovery Surgeon has the primary responsibility for the surgical dissection, removal, and preparation of abdominal organs recovered from deceased donors for transplantation and research. This includes intraoperative assessment of medical suitability of the deceased donor. The NEDS Recovery Surgeon will adhere to all NEDS surgical recovery standards and contribute to operational efficiencies and high-quality surgical recovery services. Key responsibilities include:
  • Available a minimum of 20 on-call days each month, including some weekends.
  • Extensive travel within New England to donor hospitals.
  • Participation in weekly quality review of donors and membership in the NEDS Research Committee.
  • Attendance at UNOS/OPTN Region 1 meetings, including Regional Kidney and Liver Consortium meetings.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a licensed physician with experience in organ donation, surgical organ recovery, and organ transplantation. Minimum three years' experience as a surgeon performing Donation after Brain Death (DBD) and Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) organ recoveries or transplant operations in the United States are required. Other key qualifications include:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school and residency program.
  • Licensed physician in one of the six New England states with an unrestricted and unlimited license to practice medicine.
