Job Title:Principal Mechanical Design Automation SpecialistJob Summary

We seek an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Automation Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conceptual design of automated equipment according to customer specifications. Leading complex designs of large single or multi-module custom systems, this individual will ensure reliable, cost-effective automation and test solutions that meet as-sold metrics for cycle rate, uptime, and quality while meeting critical milestones and design budget.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed designs and specifications for mechanical assembly and test equipment, dies/tools, and controls using SolidWorks.
  • Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
  • Presentation of proposed design at internal and customer design reviews.
  • Creation of a Bill of Materials for the design.
  • Printing and release of drawings and BOM to shop for build.
  • Assistance in the assembly and debug of the design as needed.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical / Electro Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Five plus years' experience utilizing Solidworks and/or AutoCAD designing various custom Automated Test and Assembly Machines for a wide range of industries.
  • Leadership of large $1M+ projects with responsibility for multiple engineers.
  • Knowledge of sound mechanical design principals, shop practices, and automation and test components.
  • Intimate knowledge of SolidWorks solid modeling software, knowledge of design techniques, automation techniques and principals involved in creation of automation and test stations and machines.
  • Solid understanding of Controls and how it interacts with the mechanical design.
  • Mentoring ability and a desire to teach junior engineers and peers.
  • Strong work ethic, sense of urgency, innate sense of commitment to the task at hand.
  • Attention to budgets and schedules and the profitability of the company.

$120,000 - $150,000 per year.
