Job Summary:

UPMC Western Maryland's South Cumberland Urgent Care is seeking a Medical Assistant to join their team. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the healthcare team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist physicians with various aspects of patient care, including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow to ensure efficient and effective care.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist with walking, transfers, and other needs.
  • Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings as needed.
  • Relay instructions to patients/families and send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment, and maintain infection control.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and restock exam/procedure rooms as needed.
  • Comply with requirements of regulatory agencies, including OSHA, CLIA, and the PA Department of Health.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs, as well as assist physicians with procedures.
  • Document patient information in the medical record and answer calls, providing pertinent information and patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and other necessary information, and complete forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments and verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities required.
  • CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
