Job Overview

CiTi BOCES seeks an experienced Senior Typist to join our team. This role involves performing moderately complex duties involving the use of computers to create correspondence, records, reports, tables, documents, and other materials.

The work is performed under general supervision, allowing for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work. Depending on the agency assignment, the incumbent may function as a secretary to a department head. Specific instructions may be given for new or unusual assignments. Supervision may be exercised over the work of clerical employees depending on work assignments and office staffing patterns.

The incumbent will perform related work as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Keys accounting and financial statements, statistical tabulations and data, letters, memoranda, vouchers, reports, requisitions, and other materials, working from rough draft or from data which is personally developed.
  • Reviews accounts, reports, payrolls, and other documents for completeness, accuracy, and conformity to established procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Collects fees and other funds for service activities and charges to specific accounts for bank deposits.
  • Conducts routine correspondence on matters where policies and procedures are well defined.
  • Assembles a variety of data from office records for incorporation into various reports and records.
  • Maintains personnel records and prepares and keys payrolls.
  • May act as unit or department liaison between public and agency program personnel.
  • May schedule and coordinate agency activities with vendors, customers, and the public.
  • Performs and oversees the typing, processing, indexing, sorting, recording, and filing of a variety of records and reports.
  • Maintains records of receipts and expenditures for specific functions of the agency.
  • May prepare news releases of agency activities.
  • Answers telephone, provides information to callers, takes messages, and makes appointments.
  • Assists in agency budget preparation.
  • May operate office equipment such as photocopiers, fax machines, typewriters, calculators, postage machines, etc.
  • May assign and review work of subordinates and instruct new employees in specialized clerical and typing or data entry work of a unit.
  • Orders supplies and equipment from vendors in support of agency programs upon advice and direction of a supervisor.
  • May take the meeting minutes of a Board or Commission.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $45,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience.

The selected candidate will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.

A provisionary appointment will be made, and the candidate must take the Senior Typist civil service exam and be reachable to obtain the position.
