Howard University is seeking a highly motivated Academic and Career Development Specialist to join our team. As a key member of the Academic Center for Excellence, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success and career development of undergraduate students.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will provide integrated academic and career advice and support services to first and second-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences. This includes providing guidance on program selection, graduation requirements, policies, and procedures, as well as resources available to students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement high-impact academic advisement and career planning services to ensure student success and timely graduation.
  • Effectively communicate with students, faculty, and staff to ensure seamless transitions and support.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, identifying areas where additional support is needed and developing targeted outreach plans.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management staff to ensure accurate and efficient student data management.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and tools for advising implementation and management.
  • Work closely with the Center for Career and Professional Success to assist students with creating career development plans.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with two or more years of relevant work experience in higher education or a related field.
  • Master's degree with one or more years of relevant work experience within an academic setting or university/college preferred.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of student information systems, data management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary Range: $53,891 - $59,280 per year
