As a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Trainee at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and education in the management of gastrointestinal and genitourinary stomas, continence disorders, acute/chronic wounds, and fistulas. Under the guidance of a WOCN, you will assist in the direct care of patients and their families, including assessment, testing, planning, and re-evaluation of care.
Key Responsibilities- Provide follow-up and interventions to patients with ostomies, draining wounds, fistulae, or skin breakdown secondary to pressure, incontinence, venous hypertension, arterial insufficiency, trauma, surgery, or diabetic neuropathy.
- Assist patients through the continuum of care for management of related issues.
- Evaluate new and currently used products for ostomy, continence, and wound care.
- Make recommendations to patients in obtaining related products.
- Assess individual patient needs and goals, and provide educational programs to physicians, nursing, and other paramedical professionals on ostomy/wound care management and self-care education.
- Minimum one (1) year previous clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Acceptance into an approved, accredited Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (WOCN) program.
- Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Certificate within 12 months of hire from Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board OR Wound Ostomy Care Nurse Certificate within 12 months of hire from Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board.
- Registered Nurse License (California).
- Basic Life Support.
