Project Accountant Job Description

Southland Industries is seeking a highly skilled Project Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process, including categorizing, recording, analyzing, and monitoring costs and billings associated with large construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile, prepare, and analyze monthly project billings per contract requirements.
  • Perform financial analysis and reconciliation of project costs versus project budget.
  • Manage vendor compliance, insurance, lien waivers, retention, and W-9s.
  • Produce and analyze job performance and profitability through job cost tracking reports.
  • Assist in preparation of status reports and maintain accurate project statuses and budget information in COINs.
  • Identify and resolve basic and complex project-related accounting issues in a timely manner.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years' of project accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong accounting knowledge.
  • Strong organization skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert-level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
