Job Overview

The Equipment Maintenance Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal functioning of equipment and systems within our food production facility. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position requires advanced technical skills in maintaining boilers, compressors, pumps, and other critical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks on boilers, air compressors, pumps, steam and water valves, and high-pressure condensates.
    • Troubleshoot and adjust equipment controls to correct malfunctions and ensure seamless operation.
  • Operational Monitoring:
    • Regularly monitor load demands and start or shut down boilers, air compressors, and pumps as needed to maintain required output for steam, air, and water.
    • Conduct regular observations of operating equipment, meters, and gauges to ensure proper function and identify potential issues.
  • Chemical Management:
    • Maintain chemical feed systems for water treatment and perform tests to ensure accurate chemical levels.
  • Safety and Inspections:
    • Inspect boiler safety devices and prepare boilers for annual inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Adhere to organizational and departmental safety programs to promote a safe working environment.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Rapidly respond to changes in load demands and emergencies, implementing corrective actions as necessary to minimize downtime.
  • Documentation and Communication:
    • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in a daily logbook.
    • Communicate effectively with shift supervisors and team members regarding abnormal operating conditions or major repairs.
  • Facility Upkeep:
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in the boiler room and surrounding areas.
  • Team Support:
    • Collaborate with team members to uphold quality and safety standards during annual boiler inspections.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform minor repairs such as replacing meters, tightening joints, and packing valves as needed.
    • Respond to facility temperature control issues reported by departmental personnel.
    Requirements:
    • Education and Experience:
      • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications preferred.
      • Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance, preferably in manufacturing (food, beverage, or CPG industry).
      • Familiarity with ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, and air compressor systems preferred.
    • Skills and Abilities:
      • Advanced technical skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and natural gas-fired equipment.
      • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and ERP/CMMS programs.
      • Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and ability to work independently.
      • Comfortable working at heights and lifting up to 50 pounds.
      • Forklift certification preferred; training available.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Estimated Salary Range:

$60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position requiring 40+ hours per week, with shifts including day, night, swing, overtime, and weekends as needed.
