Job Summary

The Staff Research Associate I will perform a wide variety of standard laboratory and experimental procedures under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The successful candidate will be highly organized, able to work independently and as part of a team, and have competency with PC and Sleep research software.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform standard laboratory and experimental procedures, including EEG/EMG headmount surgeries, gonadectomy surgeries, and maintaining animal breeding colonies.
  • Modify, vary, or adapt standard procedures to meet the needs of research projects, or improve tests that are unsatisfactory.
  • Analyze and alter conditions under which determinations are made.
  • Produce data and organize results in a meaningful way.
  • Communicate effectively with the team and stakeholders.
  • Prioritize work based on research objectives.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in programming in Python/MATLAB and other languages.
  • Ability to use standard computer programming tools and databases.
  • Ability to maintain a laboratory record containing clear well-organized summaries of experiments and results.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to conduct independent work on mice and rat brains.
  • Ability to teach others in lab, particularly for sleep scoring and analyses.
  • Knowledge of University guidelines relating to biological safety.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to keep accurate records of animal inventory, chemical and plasmid stocks, and laboratory supplies.
  • Ability to work independently, supervise others, and follow through with tasks.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
