Job Summary

Gresham Smith is seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Engineer-in-Training to join our team. As a Commissioning Engineer-in-Training, you will play a critical role in ensuring the proper functioning of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in buildings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating and Proposal Development: Prepare detailed estimates and take-offs for MEP equipment based on design documents, and develop proposals for commissioning projects.
  • Commissioning Reviews: Participate in commissioning reviews of design documents for commissioned systems, ensuring that they meet the required standards and specifications.
  • Specification Editing: Edit commissioning specifications for incorporation into project documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • MEP Systems Knowledge: Develop a deep understanding of MEP systems concepts, including design, installation, functionality, and integration.
  • Commissioning Narratives: Prepare commissioning narratives for projects, describing the commissioning process and outcomes.
  • Pre-Functional Checklists: Prepare pre-functional checklists (PFCs) based on design documents, to be incorporated into commissioning plans.
  • Project Management: Manage project deliverables and client expectations throughout the project duration, ensuring timely completion and high-quality results.
  • Functional Performance Tests: Prepare functional performance tests (FPTs) based on sequences of operation (SOOs) in design documents, to be incorporated into commissioning plans.
  • Project Meetings and Correspondence: Attend project meetings, prepare notes and minutes, and conduct professional correspondence with owners, engineers, contractors, and other team members.
  • Site Visits and Reporting: Conduct site visits to observe equipment installations, prepare site visit reports, and document important findings.
  • Contractor Direction and Testing: Direct contractors in the execution of functional performance testing for mechanical systems, document results, and prepare testing reports.
  • Portal Management: Manage Gresham Smith's online commissioning portal, updating project information and ensuring accuracy.
  • Reporting and Problem-Solving: Facilitate the production of final reports and other reports for commissioning projects, and assist in resolving complex problems that may arise during the project.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Prefer 2 years' experience in HVAC systems with a MEP consulting firm.
  • Certification: EIT certification is required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Communication Skills: Presentable written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project Management: Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Decision-Making: Demonstrated ability to discern between making decisions independently and requiring input from more experienced expertise.
  • Teamwork: Capability of working with internal and external teams efficiently.
  • Travel: Travel may be required up to 50% of the time.
