About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Surgical Nurse to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a key member of our surgical department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for surgery by verifying identity and scheduled procedure, recording vital signs, and preparing medications as ordered by physician or anesthesia personnel.
  • Assist patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, and as effectively as possible through their surgical encounter, maintaining quality and safety as a priority.
  • Delegate, direct, oversee, and provide developmentally appropriate patient care, practicing professional nursing and promoting patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
  • Participate in the preparation of the patient for surgery, maintaining communication with the reception areas and O.R. to assure efficient movement of patients.
  • Provide emotional support for the patient and family, preparing patient for surgery by verifying patient identity and scheduled procedure.
  • Record vital signs and prepare medications as ordered by physician or anesthesia personnel, assisting in the cleaning of the room after a case.
  • Assist with post-op call to patient and document patients/families responses on the EMR, assisting with nursing functions in other clinical areas.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Clinical Leader and/or Program Manager.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved ACEN or CCNE accredited school of nursing.
  • BSN preferred or completed within five years of hire.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio.
  • Current CPR certification. (Must have PALS certification)
  • One year of PACU or Acute Care experience preferred.
  • Ability to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read, and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty.
  • Ability to independently lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
