Job Summary

The Surgical Coordinator is a critical member of our healthcare team, responsible for coordinating all aspects of tests, procedures, and surgeries. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates all aspects of tests, procedures, and surgeries under the direction of the Practice Supervisor or Manager and physician(s)
  • Schedules procedures in a prompt, polite, and helpful manner, following guidelines of each facility
  • Verifies patient demographics and logs patient and insurance information
  • Coordinates procedure appointments with physician's calendar and communicates appointments and surgical preparation information to patients
  • Responsible for arranging co-surgeon or assistant as needed, as well as cross-scheduling with other departments
  • Ensures pre-op procedures are followed with consistency, including completion of surgical documentation and distribution of documentation to appropriate departments
  • Coordinates required postoperative care under the direction of the provider
  • Obtains surgical billing information from physicians and works with coding department to obtain appropriate codes and post and reconcile all surgical charges
  • Tracks all procedures, including completed and pending cases, and tracks all surgical testing and pathology results
  • Provides excellent customer service and helps to promote high levels of service
Requirements
  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs plus two years of related experience
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills required
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt in a changing environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of progressive experience in a medical office
  • Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines
  • Surgical coding knowledge (CPT and ICD-10) preferred
  • CPR certification is preferred
