Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Lead to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As a key member of our Diagnostic Imaging department, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic, therapeutic, and biopsy ultrasound procedures under the direct and indirect supervision of a physician section head.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform ultrasound studies and biopsy/aspiration procedures, positioning patients and providing immobilization means and patient counseling as required.
  • Review orders, prepare schedules, and consult with attending Radiologists and Registered Nurses as needed.
  • Collaborate with referring physicians to plan or arrange appropriate studies when needed.
  • Follow all National Patient Safety Goals, receiving and double identifying patients using appropriate criteria prior to performing the study ordered.
  • Prepare sterile fields, prepare floor stock medications, and ensure sterility of surgical packs, trays, and disposables to be used in assigned areas.
  • Assist radiologists during procedures, capturing specific images and assisting with biopsy specimen collection.
  • Post-process US images and prepare final Sonographer interpretation as required.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all department equipment and devices, reporting equipment malfunctions appropriately.
  • Assume responsibilities for the needs of patients during procedures, providing service-oriented communication and a personalized, individualized, compassionate patient care atmosphere.
  • Provide instructions on appropriate safety measures to patients, family members, and hospital/clinic staff as required.
  • Function as part of the resuscitation team during Code Blue and/or Rapid Response Team situations.
  • Maintain all materials needed and linen supply on a daily basis, maintaining general order and cleanliness of the room assigned.
  • Rotate between facilities and share on-call responsibilities for US service areas.
  • Orient and train new personnel regarding subsection operations as needed.
  • Accept responsibilities of direct supervision of student technologists during their clinical assignments.
  • Pursue ongoing continuing education, remaining knowledgeable and current regarding technological advances in the field of diagnostic medical sonography.
Requirements:
  • Minimum four (4) years post-graduate sonography experience, including experience or successful completion of training program in area of specialty, if applicable.
  • Completion of approved ultrasound training program recognized by CAAHEP; or one (1) year directly related experience.
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Supervisor or Team Leader experience in the ultrasound field.
  • Ultrasound experience in general, breast, vascular, and obstetrics imaging.
  • Certifications in Abdomen, Breast, Vascular, and Obstetrics imaging by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ADRMS).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Allied Health or Business Management.
