Transportation Specialist

Job Summary:
The Transportation Specialist will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, while maintaining a clean and organized bus environment. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personally operate a bus on a full-time basis, ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
- Transport students to and from school, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Perform daily pre-trip inspections, completing the inspector checklist and submitting it to the transportation department and school principal.
- Keep the bus in good, safe operating condition, addressing any maintenance issues promptly.
- Provide for the needs of individual students, including those with disabilities or special requirements.
- Observe and abide by all laws, regulations, and policies governing transportation, including those set by the State Department of Education and the Iberville Parish School Board.
- Report disciplinary problems to the school principal or designee.
- Participate in in-service training, staying up-to-date on the latest transportation procedures and best practices.
- Arrange for alternative transportation when the bus is broken down or the driver is unable to operate it.
- Notify the school principal and transportation department of any issues with the bus or driver availability.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the proper authority.
Professional Ethics:
- Maintain good attendance and report to work on time.
- Display professional ethics on and off duty, adhering to all Iberville Parish School Board policies.
- Report job-related injuries within 48 hours of the incident to the immediate supervisor.
- Assume responsibility for implementing emergency procedures.
- Seek and maintain a positive attitude, promoting school and community relations.
- Participate in and promote harmonious working relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and community members.
- Attend meetings as directed and serve on task forces and decision-making committees as needed.
