Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to fill the role of SANE-RN, providing critical medical-forensic services to patients of all ages who have experienced sexual assault.
Job SummaryThe SANE RN is responsible for responding to and offering medical-forensic services to patients of all ages who present to a covered facility with reports of sexual assault/violence. For patients in the adolescent age (post-pubescent) and above/adults, the SANE will operate independently in the medical-forensic exam; for patients who are in the pediatric/pre-pubescent age, if pediatric sexual assault training has been complete, the SANE will operate independently, otherwise the SANE will assist a provider with the medical-forensic exam. This role involves operating independently for adult and adolescent patients while mentoring clinicians in the care of pediatric patients.

The SANE RN is responsible for:
- Responding to and offering medical-forensic services to patients of all ages who present to a covered facility with reports of sexual assault/violence.
- Operating independently in the medical-forensic exam for patients in the adolescent age (post-pubescent) and above/adults.
- Assisting a provider with the medical-forensic exam for patients who are in the pediatric/pre-pubescent age, unless pediatric sexual assault training has been complete.
- Mentoring clinicians in the care of pediatric patients.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Dakota or meeting the enhanced Nursing Compact Licensure (eNLC) requirements.
- Completion of the Child Abuse & Dependent Adult Abuse courses for Iowa Mandatory Reporters within 90 days of employment and every 3 years thereafter.
- Prefer 2 years nursing experience in Critical Care/ED/Women's Center or Prior SANE experience.
- Tele-health experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of all OSHA safety and health standards relevant to the position and job duties preferred.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and the neurobiology of trauma preferred.
