UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is a renowned medical center and a leader in women's health. We are seeking a Medical Lab Specialist to join our Cytogenetic Laboratory team.

The UCL is a state-of-the-art facility where you will have the opportunity to make an impact on life-changing medicine. Using traditional cytogenetic techniques as well as molecular cytogenetics by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and genome-wide array comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH), the UCL performs chromosome studies on a wide variety of specimens, giving our patients the best opportunity to get the answers they need.

Estimated Salary Range: $25.74-$17.78 per hour

Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to all established laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, methods, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and personnel policies.
  • Collect and process specimens for analysis, ensuring appropriateness and stability of the sample.
  • Perform analytical procedures with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Recognize critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols.
  • Process specimens for analysis, entering accurate patient demographic information and laboratory test orders into the laboratory information system.
  • Independently perform Moderately Complex or Waived tests (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Meet established testing protocols for precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Document Quality Control according to established protocols and inform supervisory personnel of any unusual incidents.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), OR
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience OR
  • Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred.
