Job Title: High-Level Transmission Planning EngineerLocation:Hartford, CT; Westwood, MA; Manchester, NH
Estimated Salary Range:$180,000-$250,000 per year.

The Fortune 500 diversified energy services firm is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer for its Transmission System Planning team in the Northeast United States.

This high-level transmission planning engineer will lead and perform complex system planning studies, provide technical leadership, conduct scenario-based planning driven studies under various system conditions, and contribute sound engineering input to develop robust solutions. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for representing the company on regional and national transmission committees, working closely with ISO-NE, area transmission owners, and other departments to understand and mitigate electric system needs, challenges, and enable reliable future growth.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct reliability and strategic scenario-based planning studies, including voltage, thermal, PV, transfer limit, short circuit, electromagnetic transient, and stability assessments.
  • Develop long-range planning criteria for integrating new technologies, including photovoltaic solar (PV), electric vehicles (EV), and battery storage.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups to identify and prioritize infrastructure improvements, including AC transmission lines, battery storage, FACTS devices, and Inverter-Based Resources (IBR).
  • Mentor and provide technical training to junior engineers, and act as a subject matter expert on transmission planning and modeling.
  • Represent the company on regional and national committees, such as NATF, IEEE, and state public utility commissions.
Requirements:
  • MSEE or PhD in Power Systems Engineering, with a Professional Engineer's License (PE) highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of experience in transmission planning, software simulations, and IBR modeling.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical theory, power system modeling, and simulation software, including PSSE, PSCAD, and TARA.
  • Experience applying NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE planning procedures, and effective communication skills with excellent interpersonal and presentation abilities.
  • Essential software proficiency includes Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, Visio, SharePoint, OneDrive, Python, VBA, ASPEN Oneliner, EMTP (ATP), TARA, and PI Processbook.
