Psychiatrist - Visiting Psychiatric Services
Job Summary:The City of New York is seeking a skilled Psychiatrist to join its Visiting Psychiatric Services (VPS) team. As a VPS Psychiatrist, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and treatment to clients in their homes, HRA sites, or other designated locations.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate daily activities with the Clinical Intake Unit to ensure proper assignment of cases.
- Coordinate time and place of evaluation with client's caseworker.
- Review all available clinically relevant material prior to the psychiatric evaluation.
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of clients as per OHMHS' policies and procedures.
- Prepare a detailed mental health report as per OHMHS policies and procedures.
- Formulate service and treatment recommendations to assist the referring agency in planning for the client's biopsychosocial needs.
- Arrange for the involuntary transport to the hospital of individuals who are dangerous to themselves and/or others in coordination with police, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and hospital personnel.
- Refer appropriate cases to HRA's Office of Legal Affairs for guardianship, Guardian-Ad Litem, STIPSO, and other legal interventions.
- Execute Orders to Gain Access (OGA) in coordination with the Police Department and Adult Protective Services.
- Review and sign legal affirmations prepared by the Office of Legal Affairs.
- Testify in court proceedings for guardianship and other legal interventions.
- Consult with the Medical Director regarding utilization of MHL Section 9.
- Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
- Completion of three years of approved residency training in psychiatry.
