This is an exciting opportunity to join the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration team as a Supervisory Psychiatrist for Substance Use Services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care and treatment to our patients, while also supervising a team of prescribing staff.
Responsibilities- Provide quality and safety of care, treatment, and services provided by the Section in the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service Line.
- Assist in identifying important aspects of care for the Section, identifying indicators used to measure and assess important aspects of care, and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of care.
- Maintain records of meetings, including reports of conclusions, data recommendations, responsible persons, actions taken, and an evaluation of effectiveness of actions taken as appropriate.
- Supervise prescribing staff, including performance appraisals, proficiency, personnel actions, and peer reviews.
- Develop policies and procedures to assure effective management, ethics, safety, communication, and quality within the section and between Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences sections and other services as appropriate.
- Review at least annually privilege templates for each service and make recommendations to the Chief, Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences as needed for modifications.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
- Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year, and possible 5 day paid absence for CME).
- Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
- Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
- Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
- CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification).
- Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
- Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 08:00-04:30pm.
